Description
The Systems Administrator supports the planning, implementation, maintenance, and operation of server and infrastructure systems, including network and server environments, server operating systems, storage platforms, telephony and internet services, backup solutions, and disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities. This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of technical security and operational controls within a regulated environment, supporting compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST CSF, SOC 2, and CMS FDR requirements. The position also plays a key role in supporting audits, security assessments, and ongoing risk management activities related to these regulatory frameworks.
Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day performance, availability, and reliability of server systems, including server operating systems, Windows Active Directory, on-premises infrastructure, and cloud system connectivity across multiple facilities
- Administer user, system, and directory access in accordance with approved access management and change management processes, including provisioning, modification, and deprovisioning based on role changes or termination
- Participate in periodic access reviews and assist with remediation of inappropriate, excessive, or non-compliant access
- Perform server maintenance activities, including system updates, patching, antivirus, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and web-filtering services
- Support vulnerability management activities by reviewing scan results, applying system-level remediation, validating remediation effectiveness, and documenting outcomes for compliance purposes
- Troubleshoot server, system, and network issues; analyze performance trends; and implement optimizations to improve reliability and efficiency
- Benchmark, monitor, and continuously optimize system and network performance
- Maintain technical security controls, including intrusion detection and prevention, logging, and event management
- Execute and maintain security controls supporting HIPAA, HITRUST CSF, SOC 2, CMS FDR, and other regulatory requirements, including access control, logging, patching, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity best practices, including backup, recovery, and failover planning and testing
- Oversee UPS systems and coordinate monitoring of generator capacity and readiness
- Maintain accurate documentation of system standards, processes, procedures, configurations, and inventories, including system purpose, ownership, and security-relevant settings
- Support internal, customer, and third-party audits by preparing and maintaining system configurations, logs, screenshots, reports, and other required technical evidence
- Track system-related incidents and problems; document root causes, resolutions, and corrective actions
- Review and remediate system event logs and alerts on a regular basis
- Participate in security incident detection, investigation, escalation, and response activities in accordance with incident response procedures
- Manage server- and system-related service and support activities, including maintenance and vendor service agreements
- Coordinate with Network Engineering and leadership on the evaluation, selection, and procurement of servers, hosts, and appliances
- Follow approved change management and CAB processes, including documentation of technical changes, risks, and rollback plans prior to implementation
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable technologies, tools, best practices, and security trends
- Collaborate with the CTO and leadership to support annual budget planning, system usage analysis, and future IT and infrastructure planning
- Perform system administration activities with an understanding of operating in a regulated healthcare environment, including availability, confidentiality, integrity, and incident reporting expectations
- Administer and support approved AI-enabled tools and system features in accordance with company policy, including data handling, access controls, logging, monitoring, and change management requirements
- Adhere to all approved Information Security, Privacy, and Data Handling policies, including proper handling of Confidential and Internal data such as PHI, ePHI, and PII
- Participate in Lean or continuous improvement initiatives, such as Kaizen events, as applicable
- Complete required Information Security, Privacy, Compliance training, role-based training, and security attestations associated with privileged access
- Promote workplace safety by following all safety policies and promptly communicating concerns to leadership
- Maintain a cooperative, professional, and respectful working relationship with leadership, peers, and cross-functional partners and assist and inform those partners as needed
- Demonstrate initiative by seeking opportunities for continuous improvement and professional development

Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Five or more years of experience providing system and/or network support for LAN/WAN-based environments
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 email, web server and FTP configuration, workstation configuration, TCP/IP networking, and Microsoft SQL Server, including system patching and vulnerability management
- Experience supporting the technical implementation, operation, and evidence collection of security controls aligned with HIPAA, HITRUST CSF, SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria, and regulated healthcare environments such as CMS FDR
- Experience supporting internal and external audits, including collecting technical evidence, responding to auditor inquiries, and assisting with remediation of identified control gaps
- Experience administering systems with privileged access to sensitive or regulated data, including adherence to least-privilege access, access review, and security monitoring requirements
- Knowledge of and experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning and execution
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, including written, verbal, and active listening
- Strong team-oriented problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
- Availability to provide system support outside of standard business hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed for maintenance activities or issue resolution
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and security of sensitive data in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements

This position requires or may require access to “Client-Sensitive” data, PHI/ePHI access or authorization. Mandatory security training as well as background, drug screen, and/or credit checks will be implemented.
