About the Role

The City of Portage is looking for a responsible and detail-oriented, Part-time IT Support Specialist with strong administrative skills to join the Department of Technology Services. If you are interested in an entry level, part-time IT position, with the opportunity for growth and development in the future, this may be the role for you!

What You'll Do:

  • Analyze helpdesk tickets and service responses, and identify, and suggest possible improvements.
  • Prepare performance reports regularly.
  • Create management and analysis reports as directed.
  • Maintain software/hardware maintenance renewal listings.
  • Manage purchase orders and other related activities assigned.
  • Document and update department processes and procedures as required.
  • Manage department equipment check-out.
  • Serve as the first point of contact with customers.
  • Direct unresolved issues/overdue helpdesk tickets to the next level of support personnel.
  • Provide accurate information on IT products or services.
  • Record events and problems and their resolution in logs.
  • Follow-up and update customer status and information.
  • Relay customer feedback or suggestions to the appropriate internal staff.
  • Assist team members with special projects as assigned.
  • Support setup of system rollouts, replacements and configurations including workstations, printers, peripherals, etc.
  • Perform regular testing of specific systems as assigned.


What We're Looking For:

  • High school diploma or GED and one to three years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Associate’s degree in computer science or information technology is preferred.
  • Must be technologically current.
  • Certifications or equivalent experience in MS applications, ERP systems, Purchasing/Asset Management systems is preferred.
  • Must have excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • 28 hours a week, with a flexible schedule within our normal business hours of Monday – Thursday 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 PM and Fridays from 8:00AM to 12:00PM, agreed upon by the department director.
  • Hourly rate is $18.93 -$24.34/hour, commensurate with experience.
