About the Role

Overview

GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a Network Engineer (Edge Networking) to work in a hybrid capacity, with partial telework and on-site support at Commonwealth facilities in the Greater Harrisburg/Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania area. This position requires candidates to reside within commuting distance of Central PA and offers the opportunity to support enterprise-level edge networking across multiple state agencies.

As a Network Engineer (Edge Networking), you will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing edge network infrastructure across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. You will play a key role in configuring and troubleshooting network environments, assisting with deployments, and ensuring secure, high-performing connectivity for agency operations while collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, SD-WAN appliances, wireless systems, and cellular-based technologies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues using monitoring tools, working with internal teams, vendors, and service providers to ensure timely resolution.
  • Utilize Cisco CLI to manage and support network configurations and operations.
  • Participate in the design and optimization of complex edge network environments to ensure performance, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Support the implementation of network deployments, upgrades, and change management processes.
  • Monitor, test, and verify network performance using industry-standard network management tools.
  • Ensure all network environments meet or exceed established security standards and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate current and future network needs and recommend technical solutions and improvements.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and adoption of new and emerging networking technologies.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation, including Visio diagrams and configuration standards.
  • Manage and resolve ServiceNow trouble tickets, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to processes.
  • Support remote IT staff, agency personnel, and business partners with network-related issues and deployments.
  • Assist with pilot programs and rollout of new network technologies.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain working knowledge of network monitoring tools and automation practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3–4 years of hands-on experience with network routing.
  • 3–4 years of hands-on experience with network switching.
  • Strong experience configuring and troubleshooting network infrastructure in enterprise environments.
  • Proficiency using Cisco CLI for network management and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, and performance tuning tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues independently.
  • Strong understanding of LAN/WAN networking concepts and protocols.
  • Experience working with ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and network diagrams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS clearance.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to lift and install network equipment (up to ~40–50 lbs) and work on ladders.

 

  • CCNA certification or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience with SD-WAN technologies.
  • Experience supporting wireless and cellular networking solutions.
  • Familiarity with network automation tools and scripting.
  • Experience working in large-scale enterprise or government environments.
  • Experience creating and maintaining network diagrams using Visio.
  • Exposure to network security standards and compliance frameworks.
