Description of Work

Recruitment Range: $110,000 - $137,000

The position is designated Statutory Exempt (EHRA) and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act

This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency’s remote work program but does require weekly onsite work.


Are you ready to take the next step in your career? We currently have an opening for a Network Engineer.

At the North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT), the Network Engineer plays a critical role in shaping and securing the cloud‑enabled network foundation that supports statewide services. The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the cloud network infrastructure including the deployment and configuration of cloud-based network solutions to ensure high performance, reliability, and security. Positions in the role consult with enterprise architects and automation teams to drive cloud configuration.

Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement networking and security controls while ensuring compliance
• Assess cloud vulnerabilities, identify cloud security threats, identify risks, and perform audits
• Oversee the testing of data contingencies and disaster recovery planning

About the Division:
The Identity & Converged Platform - Cloud team's focus is to bring secure, cost-effective, cloud and/or on premise-based technical solutions into service for State agencies. As part of the Identity & Converged Platform within the Department of Information Technology, the Cloud team brings and supports new IT cloud services for its customers. The Identity & Converged Platform - Cloud offers a rich, complex, and continuously evolving environment where multiple teams work together to meet agency's needs and challenges with the everchanging IT landscape.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:

Demonstrated experience configuring and/or optimizing functionality of next-generation firewall solutions (such as those offered by Palo Alto Networks), preferably in a cloud environment

Demonstrated experience with core network services such as (DNS, DHCP, and IPAM technologies)

Demonstrated cloud networking experience with at least one of the "big three" Public Cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform), including hybrid cloud and/or cross-cloud/multi-cloud connectivity

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in network engineering

or

Associate degree in Computer Science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of progressive experience in network engineering

or

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and seven years of experience in networking or related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
