The Cincinnati Insurance Companies' Information Technology department is currently seeking an application system administrator to install software and support the application/system environments as well as maintain and promote that software through all environments.
To ensure active engagement in meetings, it is mandatory for all IT associates to have cameras turned on for all interactions with other associates, customers, and stakeholders. Your camera must be on and positioned correctly to clearly show your face. This practice is crucial for maintaining connection and engagement, as non-verbal cues are essential for effective communication.
Starting pay: The pay range for this position is $65,000 - $140,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.
- Software support
- test (operational readiness/smoke test) third-party application software, upgrades and patches on servers
- maintain third-party software on servers
- manage generic and service accounts (e.g. change passwords, decommission)
- validate and monitor software/server access
- create and deploy DEV, QAT and PROD (if applicable) build packages
- evaluate and recommend third-party software upgrades
- optimize/configure third-party software on servers for multiple service areas
- configure and install third-party software, upgrades and patches on servers
- optimize generic and service accounts (e.g. change passwords)
- coordinate software/hardware installs and upgrades with IT Infrastructure resources
- provide debugging assistance to developers
- set up and maintain application user permissions
- review application-related documentation to identify and communicate pertinent upgrades/enhancement packs
- analyze the effects of software/configuration changes on other systems
- work together with development team (if applicable) and source integrity team for the first installation of application software/components and releases into environments (UAT, PROD) using their tools and processes for initial server deploys where applicable
- configure and modify schedule tool for software cycles and processes (schedule jobs and processes)
- Environment support
- monitoring performance of third-party jobs/cycles and request additional capacity whenever necessary
- monitor storage in regard to supported environments and request storage changes
- monitor log files associated with third-party applications and automate monitoring and deleting of log files based on retention guidelines
- generate, maintain and analyze system performance metrics
- make recommendations for system performance improvement and availability
- provide on-call support (i.e. incident management/outages)
- validate Firewall, LoadBalancer and Server Configuration changes based on software and service area needed
- create and execute database scripts and queries
- validate/verify system backups are in place
- plan and coordinate backup strategies
- maintain and support databases
- develop and submit firewall requests
- plan and coordinate disaster recovery activities (i.e. environment, documentation, etc.)
- perform troubleshooting
- develop and follow multiple environment restart/recovery procedures and test plans
- handle the start and completion of application services
- implement and maintain interfaces
- coordinate with team and IT groups to develop or enhance existing solutions
- identify integration points and reusable components between systems
- research new technologies and provide recommendations based on impact
- evaluate topologies making recommendations to optimize environments for changes in services
- provide technical assistance to developers and other IT service areas
- create and update scripts to automate system administration tasks
- review system architecture design for potential system limitations, compliance with architecture standards and make recommendations
- use third-party diagnostic tools and work with vendors to troubleshoot application issues
- Administrative
- train/mentor less experienced associates
- proactively recommend service area process improvements
- understand and apply change, incident, release and problem management processes
- understand and correctly follow service area/IT procedure, processes and standards
- understand and follow internal and external audit compliance requirements
- Leadership
- serve as the technical lead for upgrades of third-party application to new version
- manage service requests (i.e. priority, coordination of tasks, reporting)
- assist with resource assignments (i.e. project work efforts, non-project work efforts, on-call support)
- create team communication plan for status meetings
- manage pager and support rotation schedule
- perform change manager responsibilities
Be equipped with:
- experience with PeopleSoft and PeopleTools Installations/Upgrades, patching using Change Assistant
- knowledge or experience with Phire
- strong knowledge of Server virtualization, PeopleSoft debugging, PeopleSoft tuning
- experience with 9.2 applications and using latest patching methods (PUM) from Oracle including DPK
- experience in and thorough understanding of PeopleSoft security including User Administration, Development Tools, Integration Tools
- experience performing restores and refresh/cloning
- knowledge of system application architecture, database schemas and development tools
- experience with supporting, troubleshooting and problem-solving production issues
- moderate understanding of web service technologies
- experience with MIM
- familiar with XML technologies
- experience with SQL Server and SQL

Bring education or experience from: Bachelor's degree preferred but not required or have equivalent experience in computer science or related discipline.
