About the Role
Auburn University Libraries is seeking applicants for the position of Graduate Student Assistant to provide library assistance at the Ralph Brown Draughon Library Help Desk. This position is in the Research and Instruction Services Department, which provides research assistance and information literacy instruction across most academic disciplines at Auburn University.
Note: This position is not a graduate assistantship.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide information services and assistance to patrons at the Ralph Brown Draughon Library 2nd Floor Help Desk. Duties include providing reference, technology, and general information services to library users.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Answering research, directional, and basic technology questions via text message, online chat, in person, and by telephone
Engaging with patrons to understand and assist with their research needs
Instructing patrons on how to use the library’s catalog and databases to locate and evaluate information resources
Recording and tracking the number and types of questions received at the help desk
Maintaining familiarity with standard library resources in a variety of formats
Assisting library faculty and staff with projects that support the instructional and research mission of the Libraries, including reference and collection development initiatives
Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

- Enrolled in a graduate degree program at Auburn University
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a library, academic, or customer service environment
Familiarity with academic research databases and library catalogs
Experience assisting users with research or basic technology questions
Interest in library services, research support, or information literacy
