Position Summary

This position is responsible for administering, maintaining, and optimizing Grant PUD’s monitoring and alarm systems and associated components across all transport, networks, and telecommunication infrastructures. This role ensures high performance, reliability, and availability of both wired and wireless network systems that support
Grant PUD operations.

In addition, this position requires a comprehensive understanding of Grant PUDs network infrastructure to effectively coordinate and enforce engineering standards, organizational policies, and departmental procedures. This role will support the delivery of a carrier class network by applying a customer service focused approach within the Telecom and Fiber Services department, ensuring consistent performance, reliability, and service excellence.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure departmental processes and procedures align with Grant PUD policies, engineering standards, and the direction of system owners and customers.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain controls and processes in accordance with NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirement; perform work necessary to achieve and sustain regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records within the Telecom & Fiber Services department to support proper cost allocation and budget management; manage documentation related to telecommunications and network systems, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Telecom Engineering to develop and implement design-to-operations plans for networks, systems, and projects.
  • Coordinate with Telecom Engineering to ensure understanding and adherence to network designs and engineering standards.
  • Perform calculations and validations to verify system integrity in accordance with established Telecom Engineering standards.
  • Partner with internal departments, system owners, and subject matter experts to develop communication processes for planned maintenance and unplanned outages affecting both internal and external customers.
  • Provide operational expertise to support telecom network training, standards development, process improvements, and best practices.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with peers and stakeholders across all departments.
  • Communicate operational status, issues, and system performance updates to leadership.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of costs to support budget planning and tracking.
  • This position requires NERC CIP access, and incumbents must meet and maintain eligibility with the established criteria in the Grant PUD Personnel Risk Assessment Procedure.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Grant PUD’s mission, vision, values, strategic plan and Grant PUD / IBEW Local 77 Code of Excellence. The incumbent should be familiar with these organizational priorities and behave in a way that aligns with these expectations.
  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies & procedures.

  • Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to:
    • Following all safety policies and procedures.
    • Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions.
    • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and
    • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance

Required Qualifications: (Education and Experience, License, and/or Certification)

  • Associate’s degree in information technology, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or related field; OR one (1) additional year of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Five (5) or more years of networking, fiber optic and telecommunications experience.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and Experience, License, and/or Certification)

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or related field; OR two (2) additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Six (6) or more years of networking, fiber optic and telecommunications experience.
  • Relevant industry certifications, including but not limited to: CompTIA Network, CCNA, CCNT, CCNP.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Network Management Systems (NMS), Networks, Routing and Switching, Cyber Security and IP Telephony.

    • Will perform work onsite at the locations of the assigned Business Units
