About the Role


POSITION SUMMARY

 

Plan, develop, implement, support, and secure the network and data communication infrastructure. This includes installing, configuring, supporting, diagnosing, repairing, and upgrading routers, switches, other supported network equipment, LAN, and WAN circuits. This also includes refining the operation of routers, switches, and their security solutions. This position also requires reviewing event logs daily, investigating network security related anomalies, performing necessary change control, and Incident Response. Travel may be required.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Maintain and troubleshoot the network infrastructure and associated systems.
  • Ordering, inventorying, and installing new network equipment and WAN circuits.
  • Design, implement, support, and oversee network security.
  • Conduct testing for required backup and disaster recovery.
  • Administer maintenance agreements for hardware, software, licensing, certificates, and other services.
  • Administer and support IDS/IPS, Firewalls, UTM, and event logging systems.
  • Maintain proper change control procedures.
  • Monitor and find performance and capacity issues for associated systems.
  • Periodically install updates, upgrades, and patches for associated systems.
  • Trace, punch down, run new or replace cabling as necessary for troubleshooting and installation purposes.

 

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Competency Statement(s)


A Network Administrator needs to have effective communication skills and the ability to listen to the concerns and needs of end users and management. It is important that this person has strong time management skills and can appropriately document network issues, maintenance, and future solutions. This person should be able to reference and keep information pertaining to network related tasks and job functions.

 

 

Education

 

High school diploma, college diploma, certifications, or equivalent working experience.


Experience

 

  • Exceptional knowledge of the OSI model.
  • Working technical knowledge for networked devices.
  • Diagnosing layer two and layer three issues.
  • Firsthand knowledge of the installation, implementation, and maintenance of network equipment.
  • Working knowledge of current network communication, security practices and network protocols and principles.
  • Firsthand experience designing, installing, troubleshooting, cabling, and wired network systems.
  • Ability to use tools, components, peripherals, and testing accessories.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Adept at reading and interpreting technical documentation and procedural manuals.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5:00.

After hours and on call.


Working Conditions


  • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Travel required as needed.
  • Occasional inspection of cables and wiring in floors or ceilings.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as telecommunications equipment and peripherals.
  • On-call availability 24/7/365 or as needed.
