Full job details

As the IT Helpdesk Intern, you will support the AoPS IT team by assisting with day-to-day helpdesk operations, device management, and user account administration. This is a hands-on role designed to give interns real exposure to IT systems and workflows in a fast-paced, education-technology environment. Working alongside experienced IT staff, you will develop practical skills across our core toolset: JumpCloud, Google Workspace, Freshservice, and Slack.

The IT Helpdesk Intern will:

  • Monitor and respond to helpdesk tickets in Freshservice, triaging requests and escalating to senior technicians as needed
  • Assist with hardware setup and configuration, including laptops, monitors, docking stations, keyboards, and peripherals
  • Support new employee onboarding by provisioning accounts in Google Workspace and JumpCloud, and preparing devices for day-one readiness
  • Assist with offboarding tasks, including account suspension and equipment retrieval, under the direction of senior IT staff
  • Support software deployment and device management tasks via JumpCloud MDM, including policy checks, app installs, and compliance follow-up
  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks such as OS updates, antivirus scans, and device audits
  • Contribute to knowledge base documentation in Slab, drafting how-to guides and SOPs for common IT procedures
  • Provide Tier 1 support for Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and other commonly used applications

The ideal candidate has:

  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree or certification program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Basic familiarity with macOS and/or Windows operating systems
  • Some exposure to IT concepts such as user account management, networking basics, or device troubleshooting (coursework counts)
  • Strong problem-solving instincts and a willingness to dig into unfamiliar systems
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users
  • Comfort working in a ticketing system or similar structured workflow tool
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Slack, and/or Zoom is a plus, but not required
  • Familiarity with MDM platforms (e.g., JumpCloud, Jamf, Intune) or cloud identity providers is a plus, but not required

Why Join AoPS:
This is a full-time paid internship (40 hours per week) based at our headquarters in San Diego, CA. The pay rate for this position is $27.50/hour. Here are some things you can look forward to:

  • Impact: This internship gives you exposure to the full IT lifecycle, not just ticket work. You may get hands-on experience with JumpCloud MDM, Freshservice ticketing workflows, Google Workspace administration, IT documentation in Slab, and device lifecycle management from unboxing to disposal
  • Flexibility: Casual work environment with flexible scheduling
  • Benefits: Multiple options for Medical, Dental and Vision plans
  • Future Planning: 401(k) with company match
  • Quality of Life: PTO Plan and supportive leadership that gives you the work-life balance you deserve

Background Check:

Please note that employment is contingent on the successful completion of a background check.

Work Authorization:

About AoPS:

Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) is on a mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. Since 2003, we have trained hundreds of thousands of the country's top students, including nearly all the members of the US International Math Olympiad team, through our online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. While our primary focus has been math for most of our history, through the years we have expanded our unique problem solving curriculum into more subjects, such as language arts, science, and computer science.
