We are seeking a hands-on Lab IT Support Specialist to support scientific and laboratory IT systems within a fast-paced, regulated life sciences environment. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, connectivity, and performance of lab instrumentation and supporting IT infrastructure.

This is a fully onsite role (5 days/week) based in Cambridge, MA, requiring strong collaboration with scientists, lab personnel, and cross-functional IT teams.

 

Lab IT Support Specialist Responsibilities:

Lab IT & Instrument Support

  • Provide day-to-day support for standalone and client/server-based scientific instruments
  • Troubleshoot and maintain instrument-to-PC connectivity, including serial, USB, and network-based connections
  • Support instrument software installations, upgrades, and configurations
  • Partner with lab users to resolve technical issues impacting workflows and data integrity

Infrastructure & Systems Support

  • Administer and support Windows Server environments
  • Manage and troubleshoot Active Directory integrations, including user access and permissions
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting, including DNS resolution, port connectivity, and firewall-related issues
  • Support and execute backup and restore processes to ensure data integrity and system recovery

Application & Lab Systems Support

  • Provide support for common lab applications such as Unicorn, ChemDraw/ChemOffice, and similar scientific software
  • Assist with configuration, troubleshooting, and user support for lab systems and applications
  • Collaborate with validation, QA, and IT teams to ensure systems remain compliant with internal standards and regulatory expectations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience supporting lab environments and scientific instrumentation
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Windows Server administration
    • Active Directory
    • Basic networking (DNS, ports, firewalls)
  • Experience with instrument connectivity and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to support both technical and non-technical stakeholders

The actual salary is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs, market demand, and competitive market practice.
