Job Description:
The Workday System Administrator serves as the overall system owner for the organization’s Workday platform, responsible for ensuring system integrity, security, availability, and performance. This role operates in close partnership with the HRIS team, who manage stakeholder engagement and functional configuration, while this position focuses on the technical backbone of Workday. This individual plays a critical role in managing integrations, overseeing security administration, supporting system releases, and ensuring the platform operates efficiently and securely across all modules.
Responsibilities:
Platform Ownership & Operations
Serve as the primary owner of the Workday system, ensuring overall system health, stability, and performance
Monitor system availability, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate resolution of system outages or disruptions
Maintain system governance standards, documentation, and audit readiness
Integrations
Own and manage all Workday integrations (inbound/outbound), including monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization
Partner with internal IT teams and third-party vendors to ensure integration reliability and data integrity
Maintain integration documentation and data flow diagrams
Security & Governance
Design, implement, and maintain Workday security framework (roles, domains, business process security policies)
Conduct regular security audits and access reviews
Partner with TechOps and Security teams to ensure secure authentication, authorization, and access lifecycle management. controls, audit requirements, and
Change Control, Documentation & Support
Partner with internal stakeholders to execute formal change control processes for integrations, security updates, and system‑level changes, including impact assessment, testing, approval, and deployment.
Establish and maintain post‑go‑live technical support processes, including incident management, escalation paths, and operational runbooks.
Adhere to defined SLAs for Workday-related support and provide regular reporting on service desk performance, trends, and resolution metrics using Jira.
Create and maintain technical documentation as a required byproduct of all work, ensuring integrations, configurations, and operational procedures are clearly documented and kept current.
Lead weekly Workday sync meetings with Finance and HRIS.
Release Management & Feature Enablement
Partner with HRIS to evaluate, plan, and deploy Workday bi-annual releases and feature updates
Develop and publish clear, user-friendly release notes
Partnership with HRIS
Collaborate closely with HRIS to align priorities, system enhancements, and roadmap planning
Provide technical guidance on feasibility, system impacts, and best practices
Support HRIS during configuration changes by ensuring alignment with system architecture and standards
Qualifications:
4–5+ years of experience supporting Workday in a technical or IT systems administration role
Hands-on experience with Workday integrations, including Core Connectors, EIBs, and REST/SOAP APIs
Experience with tenant management, release coordination, and Workday security administration
Proven ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and drive work to completion
Experience working with third‑party implementation or support partners
Working knowledge of enterprise SSO and identity/access management practices
Preferred Qualifications:
Direct experience as a technical contributor on Workday implementation
Workday Pro Certification (Integration and/or Security)
Experience building operational processes within maturing or newly formed teams
Familiarity with Agile or hybrid delivery models using Jira and Confluence
Reporting Structure
This role reports to the Senior Manager, Business Applications (IT) and partners closely with HR, Finance, and external implementation consulting teams.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $82,500 - $110,000. Pay will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and relevant education and training. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, commission, or other variable pay plan.
