Job Description
Job Title: Engineer I, Test
FLSA Status: Exempt
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Manager, Engineering Product Support
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The Engineer I, Test is responsible for developing test plans and conducting tests on mechanical, electrical, & fluid systems under the direction of a senior engineer or manager. Provides engineering support to internal and external customers and performs other tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operational Excellence
- Translate testing requirements into a system design and executing test plans.
- Determine feasibility of modifying existing or designing new equipment considering costs, time limitations, and other technical and economic factors.
- Validate designs through testing and analysis.
Collaboration
- Coordinate own testing efforts as well as other engineers and designers to meet production schedules and provide project task estimates and updates to project team.
- Directs and coordinates engineering activities concerned with instrumentation, data acquisition, data analysis, reporting, conclusions, and recommendations.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
Experience: 0+ years’ experience of testing; familiar with basics of instrumentation and technical report writing.
Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentials
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite.
- Collaborate with others to clarify requirements and develop solutions.
- Working knowledge of Loram custom software to include IFS and WebFocus.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Licenses/Certification: Six Sigma Yellow Belt
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Autodesk and ERP software
- Knowledge of test instrumentation uses and calibration practices for measurement of pressure, strain, temperature, electric power.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires successful completion of:
- The subject’s name must correspond to their Social Security number and date of birth.
- A nationwide, federal, and state criminal background check will be conducted. Up to a seven-year history will be considered, including incarceration or court supervision. Findings will be reviewed relative to the position requirements.
- Current and prior relevant employment experience will be verified to confirm the candidate meets the minimum required years of experience for the position.
- Post-secondary education at the associate degree level or higher will be verified, including degree(s) earned and dates of completion.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be conducted upon hire and annually thereafter in accordance with Loram’s Driving Policy.
- All applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test. Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-incident drug and/or alcohol testing in compliance with federal regulations and company policy. Corporate non safety applicants are subject to drug test.

Compensation:
Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.
