Onboard Systems Hoist & Winch, located in Anaheim, CA is one of the world’s leading providers of Search & Rescue (SAR) and Human External Cargo (HEC) advanced mission equipment for civil, commercial, and military helicopters.
Position Overview
Location: Anaheim, CA (On-site)
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Pay: $140,000 - $160,000 per year
The Sr. Test Engineer is crucial for ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of our aerospace products through rigorous testing and qualification. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical engineering background, a deep understanding of aerospace standards, and proven project management abilities.
What You’ll Do
- Test Program Development: Design, develop, and execute comprehensive qualification test plans and procedures for hoist and winch systems, ensuring strict adherence to industry standards, including DO-160.
- Technical Documentation: Author and maintain precise Test Procedures, work instructions, and other technical documentation to support testing activities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to resolve technical issues and support product development.
- 5+ years of LabVIEW development experience in an industry environment
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze test data, identify performance trends, and perform root cause analysis for any failures. Document findings in detailed and professional Test Reports.
- Failure Investigation: Support failure investigation in developing root cause and corrective action for manufacturing and customer top-level systems integration/ test failures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in test, validation, or a related engineering role within the aerospace industry.
- Platform Knowledge: Direct experience in an aerospace environment is required, with a strong preference for candidates experienced with helicopter platforms.
- Engineering Background: A solid foundation in mechanical and/or electrical engineering principles, with the ability to apply this knowledge to complex test setups and troubleshooting.
- Tools & Software: Proficiency in a range of technical tools, including:
- LabVIEW for data acquisition and test automation.
- MS Office Suite for professional documentation and presentations.
- JIRA for project tracking and issue management.
- Experience with Engineering lab equipment per EH&S procedures
- Experience with Testing Procedures (ATP, MTP, etc.) as well as experience in ATE design
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience OR
- Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience OR
- In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NI hardware-based test stands and programming in high-level computer language (NI tools such as LabVIEW/CVI, Test Stand)
- Experience working with motor and motor controller testing.
- Experience with AC/DC systems.
- Experience with software programming tools such as Python, C, and C++
- Experience with serial communication protocols such as RS-232/422/485, SPI, CAN, ARINC
- Hands on experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, DMMs, signal generators, and power supplies.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment – where priorities change
- Able to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
- Experience generating and presenting project status.
- Good communication skills
- Hands-on Aerospace hardware design, build, test, and integration experience (or in regulated industry)
- Able to identify problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Exposure to test systems for one or more of the following: electronic subsystems, Electromechanical subsystems, Motor subsystems, and hydraulic subsystems
- Able to function at a high level with multiple tasks and projects, and to effectively change direction based upon business needs.
