The Sr. Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, automating, and operating scalable and secure cloud platforms to support business-critical applications. This role focuses on infrastructure-as-code, containerized workloads, CI/CD enablement, and ensuring high availability, performance, and security across cloud environments.

The Sr. Cloud Engineer’s daily duties involve designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure and application platforms using automation and modern DevOps practices. Regular activities include monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with teams to deliver secure and reliable solutions.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

Role And Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage Azure cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks (e.g., Terraform).

  • Build and maintain scalable cloud architectures including networking, identity, and security components.

  • Design, implement, and support Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) environments for containerized applications.

  • Deploy and manage applications on AKS using CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes manifests.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot cloud resources, applications, and networking across environments.

  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps) for infrastructure and application deployments.

  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks using scripting and cloud-native tools.

  • Support hybrid and cross-cloud connectivity solutions (VPN, firewall, secure routing).

  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows and Linux virtual machines.

  • Manage Entra ID (Azure AD), including access controls, identity governance, and security policies.

  • Maintain and support Active Directory and Microsoft 365 environments.

  • Ensure cloud security and compliance standards are met (HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.).

  • Monitor system performance and optimize resources for reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure documentation, standards, and operational procedures.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in planning, architecture, and deployment activities.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship on cloud and DevOps best practices.

  • Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and security trends.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

Qualifications And Education Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience designing and supporting cloud environments, preferably in Azure.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or similar) and cloud automation.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), including AKS or similar platforms.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar)
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, routing, private connectivity).
  • Experience managing identity and access using Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, and M365.
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Linux and Windows Server environments.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security best practices, including least privilege access and secure networking.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation and operational efficiency.
  • Experience with cost optimization and cloud resource management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience.

Preferences
 

  • Experience with healthcare or PBM-related cloud environments is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with hybrid or multi-cloud environments (including OCI or AWS).
  • Experience with VMware (vSphere / ESXi) environments.
  • Exposure to platform engineering practices and scalable cloud architectures.
  • Relevant certifications (Azure, AWS, Kubernetes) are a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is a plus.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some standing, walking, bending, and reaching may be required.  Regularly operates in an office or home office setting which involves utilizing a computer, mouse, keyboard, and occasionally operates other standard office equipment, such as printer, copier, phone.  Travel may be required by either car or airplane, or a combination of multiple modes of transportation.
