Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a Specialist, Test Engineer at our Cape Canaveral, FL location. There, you will join our Systems Test and Launch Operations team where you will participate in integration and testing of our space bound hypersonic launch vehicles, culminating in the thrill of launch operations. At this location, Coleman Aerospace produces complex single, two, and three stage launch vehicles used to support ballistic missile defense testing.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform integrating, testing and assembling of multi-stage missile systems or comparable aerospace hardware.
  • Participate in and support system level functional hardware testing. 
  • Operate basic electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, signal generators, etc.
  • Operate specialized support and handling equipment for system level testing and troubleshooting. 
  • Generate, author and maintain standard test, build and operations procedures.
  • Willing and able to travel for extended periods both inside and outside of the continental U.S.

 

Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related engineering field such as mechanical, aerospace, or electrical with a minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Excellent mechanical skills and the ability to read complex technical drawings.
  • Able to meet USAF Aerospace Physiological standards, satisfactorily complete the associated training, and willing to perform launch duties aboard USAF aircraft.
  • Previous military experience or civilian experience as an FAA Airframe and Power Plant mechanic is highly desirable.
  • Willing to work with Class 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 ordnance devices and complete the requisite training and certification courses.
  • Satisfactorily complete safety training courses for working in the vicinity of, handling, testing, and installation of explosive devices.
  • Environmental testing experience and/or instrumentation experience is desirable.
  • Satisfactorily complete ESD training.
  • Capable of obtaining an FAA Class III (or higher) medical certificate.
  • The ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid computer skills and experience using the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with or willing to learn USAF policies and procedures for high altitude airdrop missions (HAAMS) and willing to participate in the same.
  • Previous experience as an aircrew member and/or a background in aircraft maintenance and flight line operations is desired.
  • Working knowledge of EVMS as related to government contracts and reporting requirements desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Universal Documentation System and other Range Commander's Council documents for flight safety and range tracking is a plus as is a working knowledge of telemetry systems and both line-of-sight and satellite communication systems.
  • Experience with Minuteman SR 19 or other solid propellant rocket motors preferred.
