SERVER ADMINISTRATOR

The working hours for this position require flexibility to meet the operational needs of the Office, including the ability to work outside of standard business hours as needed. Candidates must be able to adjust their schedule to support deadlines, special projects, and time-sensitive assignments.

Job Summary

The Server Administrator will support the Windows Server Administrator role and is responsible for managing enterprise servers, SAN Storage, applications, and associated tools. Under the direction of the IT Operations Manager, the Server Administrator will administer the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s distributed systems and associated infrastructure. The Server Administrator responsibilities include server capacity planning, monitoring, troubleshooting and project support. The Server Administrator may provide assistance in identifying and resolving computer and peripheral-related issues as needed.

Essential Duties

  • Deploys, maintains and customizes Enterprise Windows servers, Hyper-V technologies, VMware hypervisor environments.

  • Plan, migrate/upgrade, and deploy SCCM/MECM infrastructure (CAS/Primary Site, Management Point, Distribution Points, Software Update Point/WSUS, Reporting Services), including prerequisite checks, pilot testing, and rollback planning.

  •  Design and implement OS Deployment (OSD) solutions using Task Sequences, PXE/WDS, Boot Images, and driver management.

  • Manage Windows and Microsoft application patching through ADRs, maintenance windows, and phased deployments to ensure compliance and security.

  • Maintain, implement and support SAN Storage, preferably HPe products like Primera, Alletra , StoreOnce and StoreEasy.

  • Administers and supports the Active Directory, DNS and DC.

  • Supports and implements group policy standards throughout managed services installed client base.

  • Troubleshoots and escalates issues that are Storage, Server or virtualization related.

  • Plans, configures, installs and maintains HPe servers, i.e. Synergy Frame, and Brocade Switches, as well as applications.

  •  Maintains regular communication with users and management to resolve technical issues and ensure software solutions align with business objectives and user requirements

  •  Documents software updates and operational procedures, creates hardware configuration plans and conducts user tests to measure and assess network performance.

  •  Monitors and optimizes enterprise systems to ensure maximum performance and high availability of critical applications for uninterrupted user access.

  •  Provides after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies and occasional weekend maintenance and support.

  •  Maintain and document asset inventory and system policies to enforce security procedures.

  •  Develops methods and works with other team members to enhance security and to minimize network attacks.

  • Proficient in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting SFTP and implementing SSL certificate management. Additionally, experienced with Telnet and backup and restore operations.

  • Resolves assigned tickets within pre-defined SLAs.

  • Supports and maintains all data center equipment including servers, storage, and other network equipment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, MIS, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Four (4) years of full-time work experience as a Server Administrator.

OR

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Seven (7) years of full-time work experience as a Server Administrator.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current employee of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, Information Systems, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Experience deploying, maintaining and customizing Windows servers

  • Experience managing a large-scale Windows Server infrastructure consisting of over 200 servers.

  • Solid understanding of network protocols and VLANs.

  • Working knowledge of current industry standard technologies such as Cloud Services and Generative AI. 

  • Assist with hardware/software vendor evaluation and recommendations.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively or independently while effectively following directions, prioritizing tasks, and solving problems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Maintains, supports, and implements enterprise backup strategies utilizing Veeam technologies to ensure reliable data protection and recovery.

  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, skill and efficiency in entering and retrieving data and preparing informative reports.

Physical Requirements

  • Medium Work; Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 30 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including servers, switches and peripherals.
  • Moderate bending, stooping, kneeling, and rasping are required.
