Fieldpiece is a privately held, global leader in professional HVACR tools and test instruments. We're known for developing innovative products that technicians rely on every day—and for investing in our people, technology, and future. Named one of the Best Places to Work in Southern California for four consecutive years, we're looking for talented engineers who enjoy solving challenging problems and making a meaningful impact.
We're looking for a hands-on engineer who knows how to test physical products - not just follow test procedures, but develop the methods, equipment, and solutions needed to prove they work.
As our Senior Product Test Engineer, you'll play a key role in developing and validating electromechanical products that integrate mechanical components, electronics, sensors, firmware, and connected technologies. You'll work closely with our engineering teams to understand product requirements, identify potential failure points, develop test strategies, and design and build the fixtures, instrumentation, and automated test systems needed to evaluate product performance and reliability.
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys working in the lab, solving technical challenges, and influencing product design. You'll have significant ownership of your work while helping us strengthen our test automation, data acquisition, and laboratory capabilities.
Location: Orange, CA, with a planned move to Tustin in 2028. We offer a hybrid schedule, typically three days onsite per week, with additional onsite time as needed for laboratory testing and product development. Travel is up to 10%.
What You'll Do
Develop verification and validation test plans, procedures, and methods for new electromechanical products based on engineering requirements.
Design, build, and troubleshoot custom test fixtures, instrumentation, laboratory setups, and automated test systems.
Perform hands-on functional, performance, environmental, durability, and reliability testing throughout product development.
Develop data acquisition methods, analyze results, investigate failures, and recommend design improvements.
Partner with mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, and systems engineering teams to identify risks and resolve technical challenges.
Document test procedures, results, and findings while maintaining appropriate requirements traceability.
Help advance laboratory capabilities, test automation, and repeatable testing processes while providing technical guidance to Test Technicians.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
Build - don't just test: Design and develop the fixtures, instrumentation, and testing solutions needed to evaluate new products.
Work across technologies: Test products that integrate mechanical systems, electronics, sensors, firmware, and connected capabilities.
Own your work: Take testing from early prototypes through product verification, validation, and readiness.
Solve meaningful engineering problems: Investigate failures, uncover design weaknesses, and help deliver better products.
Shape our testing capabilities: Introduce new methods, equipment, automation, and improvements that make testing more effective and efficient.
Qualifications: What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
5+ years of hands-on experience testing and validating physical products in a new product development environment.
Experience developing verification and validation test plans, procedures, and methods from engineering requirements.
Demonstrated ability to design, build, and troubleshoot test fixtures, instrumentation, and laboratory test setups.
Strong electromechanical product testing, engineering troubleshooting, and root-cause-analysis skills.
Experience with data acquisition, test measurements, and engineering data analysis.
Ability to independently manage testing activities, solve technical problems, and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Even better if you have:
Experience with HVACR equipment, professional tools, industrial instruments, sensors, or other electromechanical products.
Experience with automated test systems using LabVIEW, Dewesoft, Python, or similar tools.
Experience with environmental, durability, or reliability testing.
Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD tools used to design test fixtures.
