Job Posting: Senior Linux Systems Administrator / Infrastructure Engineer (SE4) – NASA AEGIS


Location: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), Greenbelt, MD


Shift: Full-Time, Primarily On-Site (Some remote work possible, but not guaranteed). Includes rotational on-call support.

The Role

Join the Altech Solutions team in supporting critical NASA IT and aerospace infrastructure. While categorized as a Systems Engineer 4, this is a hands-on, high-impact infrastructure role. You will lead application deployment, design integrated hardware/software solutions, and manage end-user endpoint infrastructure across NASA operational environments. This role requires technical precision, deep system administration expertise, and a commitment to mission success.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $120,000 - $125,000 / year (Exempt)

Key Responsibilities

  • System Integration: Architect and build a secure, highly resilient server infrastructure (Linux, Windows, and virtual environments) for maximum uptime and scalability. Ensure the day-to-day operation and ongoing support of Servers and Systems including event, fault, and performance management.
  • Hardware & Infrastructure: Install, monitor, and troubleshoot operating systems, hardware, and computer infrastructure. Find gaps in the systems and use analytical skills and knowledge of problem-solving methodologies to provide solutions.
  • Mission Support: Willingness to support rotational on-call and periodic mission support objectives.
  • Application & Deployment: Lead application teams in areas of responsibility for continuous software enhancements, patch management, and deployments across development environments.
  • Agile Collaboration: Lead efforts and work closely with systems administrators, database and application administrators/programmers, network engineers/analysts, customers, and outside vendors in engineering solutions or resolving problems.
  • Documentation & Testing: Define system test procedures, task success criteria, and maintain technical architecture diagrams, system build, and application update documentation.


Qualifications

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field PLUS 12 years of experience; OR an Associate's degree (AA) PLUS 14 years of experience.
  • Experience Context: 12 years of professional systems engineering, system administration, application deployment, or IT infrastructure experience.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of command-line environment tracking, Linux/UNIX, Windows, VMWare or OpenShift, and system administration.
  • Security Clearance: U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or higher security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Environment: Direct experience supporting government, aerospace, or real-time NASA mission-critical environments.
  • Frameworks: Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines, automated infrastructure tools, and Agile frameworks.
  • Skill Sets: Storage Array (Nexsan, Dell Unity); VMware, iDRAC (IPMI); Strong Linux/RHEL and Windows foundations; Ability to produce and maintain Python programs or shell scripts in a UNIX environment for automation and data migration between systems; Knowledge of Cisco Software Defined Networking technologies.
  • Certifications: Active industry certifications (e.g., Red Hat, CompTIA Security+) are a plus.
