Network Administrator
Office of Information Technology
The St. Johns River Water Management District is an environmental agency whose work is focused on ensuring a long-term supply of drinking water, and to protect and restore the health of water bodies in the District’s 18 counties in northeast and east-central Florida. The Office of Information Technology is responsible for developing and managing technology solutions which support the District’s missions of water quality, water supply, flood protection, and natural systems. Job Summary: This is professional work participating in the design, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of the District's enterprise network infrastructure. This position will be directly involved in supporting critical technology initiatives, including network modernization, cybersecurity improvements, cloud integration, infrastructure resiliency, and the implementation of new networking technologies. Responsibilities include configuring, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing network services; supporting routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, and cloud networking resources; and ensuring compliance with established security standards and operational procedures. The position will collaborate with IT staff, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable networking solutions that support the District's operational and strategic objectives.
Job duties include:
- Assists in the planning, implementation, documentation, and support of enterprise network solutions. Collaborates with IT staff, vendors, and stakeholders to implement network technologies, troubleshoot issues, ensure compliance with established standards, procedures, and change management practices.
- Implements and supports network security technologies including firewalls, VPNs, network segmentation solutions, and related security services. Assists in enforcing network security standards, access controls, and best practices.
- Performs preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and lifecycle management activities for network infrastructure. Provides technical support and serves as a resource for IT staff and business users during operational support activities and technology initiatives.
- Configures, monitors, and supports routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, cloud networking services, and related technologies. Assists with the implementation of network segmentation, routing, redundancy, resiliency, and connectivity solutions.
- Diagnoses and resolves network connectivity, routing, switching, wireless, firewall, and cloud networking issues. Utilizes network monitoring and diagnostic tools to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and develop recommendations for service improvements.
- Monitors network performance, capacity, availability, and security metrics. Develops recommendations to improve performance, scalability, resiliency, operational efficiency, and business continuity.
- Maintains proficiency by attending classes, seeking training opportunities, and reading related periodicals and literature.
Knowledge Of:
Network management skills (TCP/IP, Ethernet, Routing & Switching, SD-WAN, Fiber Optics, MPLS, etc.); Router/Switch/Firewall management skills (Cisco, Aruba, Arista, Fortinet, etc.); Network Topologies; 802.xx standards; wireless network standards and protocols; Voice over IP; Cloud networking components (AWS, GCS, Azure)
Skilled In:
Systems analysis; project management; documentation; communication; and hardware/software troubleshooting.
Ability To:
Analyze hardware and software; provide input in the selection of new products; lift, move, and maneuver network equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently, and up to 100 pounds with assistance; communicate well, both in normal and technical communications; collaborate while on technical teams; and manage contracts.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the computer sciences or management information systems and two years of experience in an Information Technology enterprise, or completion of a two-year program from a vocational/technical school or community college in computer science or management information systems and four years of experience in an Information Technology enterprise.
Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
General office environment; some travel (occasional weekend and evening work); hours worked over 40 in a single week earn comp time.
Licenses:
Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
Additional Details:
Starting Salary Range: $57,324.80 - $71,635.20
Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
