Messaging & Cloud Engineer Job Details:

Snell & Wilmer is one of the largest law firms in the western United States, with offices across the country. Our IT team supports a dynamic legal environment where reliability, security, and performance are critical to the work our attorneys and staff do every day.

We’re looking for a mid-level Messaging & Cloud Engineer to join our IT team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the design, administration, and support of our cloud messaging and collaboration platforms, with a strong focus on Microsoft 365. You’ll work cross-functionally with Security, Systems, and Help Desk teams to keep our communication infrastructure running smoothly and securely.

This is a primarily remote role, with occasional onsite support and travel as business needs arise.  This position can be based out of our Phoenix or Salt Lake City office.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Administer and support Microsoft Exchange Online, Exchange on-premises, and other related M365 messaging services
  • Manage Microsoft Defender and other email security and hygiene tools, including filtering, DLP policies, and mail flow rules
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, and directory synchronization (Entra Connect)
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administrative tasks
  • Collaborate with IT teams across Security, Systems, Applications, and Help Desk to investigate and resolve complex technical issues
  • Participate in project work including platform migrations, security improvements, and new service rollouts
  • Collaborate with vendors like Microsoft on escalated support issues
  • Document configurations, runbooks, and standard operating procedures

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in IT systems or cloud engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS, computer engineering, or a related program of study, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Exchange Online and Exchange on-premises administration
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Entra ID (Azure AD Connect) for identity management
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 administration
  • Working knowledge of email security fundamentals — SPF, DKIM, DMARC, mail flow, and spam/phishing filtering
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting
  • Familiarity with customer service platform tools such as Zendesk for workflow and task management.
  • In-depth understanding of the administration of Microsoft Windows Server OS, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO.
  • Experience in the implementation and maintenance of data center equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently present products, deliverables, analyses, and issues
  • Preferred Experience & Qualifications:
    • Familiarity with Mimecast or similar email security and archiving platforms
    • Microsoft certifications (MS-203, AZ-104, or equivalent) are a plus, but hands-on experience is what matters most
    • Experience supporting a legal or professional services environment
