Location: Joint Pathology Center, 606 Stephen Sitter Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910
Position Description: The Junior System Administrator provides day-to-day system administration and technical support services to ensure the operational availability, security, and compliance of Joint Pathology Center (JPC) information systems.
Minimum/General Experience: 2 years of system administration experience
Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, engineering, or related field; Active certification meeting Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF)/Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II requirements (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, CND, GSEC, GICSP, SSCP)
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
- Above average experience performing system monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration tasks
- Above average experience performing routine system administration and maintenance tasks
- Above average experience troubleshooting and deploying end-user devices (e.g., mobile devices, workstations, and network-connected equipment)
- Experience with Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022)
- Experience with Linux-based medical devices and network-connected peripherals
- Experience supporting Active Directory and Group Policy
- Experience with Virtual Teleconference (VTC) support
- Ability to read and interpret system logs and error reports
- Experience supporting a federal agency
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem solving and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently on complex issues

- Assignment Location - Joint Pathology Center, 606 Stephen Sitter Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910
- Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Typing, communicating, repetitive motions.
- Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, view computer monitors and read. May need to view presentation screens and other visual aids in a virtual setting.
- Inside environmental conditions with protection from outside elements.
Security: Active DoD Secret Clearance; Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret Clearance as needed

DoD Clearance Consists of a review of up to but not limited to:
- Covers 10 year period and in some instances lifetime events
- OPM Security Investigations Index (SII)
- DOD Defense Central Investigations Index (DCII)
- National Agency Check (NAC) records
- FBI name check
- FBI fingerprint check
- Credit report check
- A check of local law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction over the areas where the applicant has lived, worked, or attended school
- Education check- Attendance and Degrees
- Employment verification -may include interviews of supervisors and/or co-workers
- Corroboration of unemployment
- May include reference interviews
- May include interviews of the individual, former spouse (s)
- Confirmation of all residences
- Verification of public record information
Tasks/activities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintains operational availability of JPC information systems through routine system administration and Tier I - III technical support
- Responds to user support requests in a timely and professional manner to minimize mission impact
- Performs hardware replacement, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and deployment of End User Devices (EUDs) and servers as assigned
- Tracks Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs) and Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) notices to prevent system quarantine
- Applies manual patches to servers and end-user devices when automated deployment tools (e.g., SCCM/MECM) fail
- Supports implementation of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) as directed
- Performs basic Active Directory administration and Group Policy tasks under senior guidance
- Assists with basic network configuration and troubleshooting within the DoD NIPRNET environment
- Provides VTC support, including setup, troubleshooting, and coordination with vendors for VTC room installations
- Provides ad hoc training to non-IT JPC personnel to improve computer literacy
- Develops and maintains quick reference guides and user documentation for commonly used systems and applications
- Coordinates with property management personnel to track and inventory IT assets and EUDs
- Supports IT projects as prioritized by the COR, including equipment moves, deployments, upgrades, inventories, and workspace organization
- Assists with server and technology migrations to DoD cloud environments under senior supervision
Compensation & Benefits: The annual projected pay range for this position is $67,593 - $73,969 with consideration being given to various factors including but not limited to qualifications, experience, job responsibilities, and geographic location.
