About the Role

Description:

The Journeyman Linux Systems Administrator applies established systems administration expertise across multiple, moderately complex assignments. This role involves working with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment in determining technical approaches, and contributing original solutions where needed. Responsibilities may span a broad range of operational and support tasks, requiring adaptability, sound technical decision-making, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The administrator contributes directly to technical deliverables and operational performance metrics while supporting system reliability, security, and availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer, maintain, and support Linux-based systems across development, test, and operational environments to ensure uptime, performance, and reliability.
  • Perform system installation, configuration, patching, monitoring, and troubleshooting for Linux servers and associated applications.
  • Analyze system issues of moderate complexity and develop effective resolutions using established methodologies and independent problem-solving techniques.
  • Develop and refine scripts, tools, or processes to improve system efficiency, automation, and operational consistency.
  • Support system upgrades, enhancements, and capacity planning efforts in coordination with engineering and program teams.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and configuration records to support maintainability and compliance.
  • Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and system status to team members and stakeholders as required.

Qualifications:

  • Two (2) to six (6) years of experience administering Linux systems, including installation, configuration, patching, monitoring, and troubleshooting in operational environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on moderately complex assignments, developing sound technical solutions, documenting work, and communicating results effectively.
