Job Overview
The Temporary IT Support Specialist provides day-to-day technology support for approximately 120 employees working in a hybrid nonprofit media organization across locations in Los Angeles County and Orange County. As part of a four-person IT team, this role focuses primarily on help desk requests, routine troubleshooting, equipment support, and user onboarding/offboarding, with additional responsibility for onsite technology and AV support. The ideal candidate will learn systems and processes quickly, work independently on routine support needs, and appropriately escalate more complex infrastructure, systems, or security issues.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Help Desk, Ticket Fulfillment & Routine IT Support — 70%
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee IT support requests, managing assigned help desk tickets through timely resolution and communicating clearly with staff.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, applications, account access, connectivity, and peripheral issues across Windows and macOS environments.
- Support organizational platforms and applications, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Active Directory/Azure, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Creative Suite, and other media/creation applications.
- Provide basic Active Directory support, including creating users, resetting passwords, and managing groups within established procedures and permissions.
- Use Microsoft 365 Admin Center and related administrative tools to support routine user, account, and application needs.
- Support ShoreTel and/or other VoIP phone systems, including routine user and device troubleshooting.
- Perform basic network troubleshooting for wired, wireless, and other common connectivity issues, including patching and tracing cables.
- Use basic Windows and macOS commands as part of routine troubleshooting and network diagnostics.
- Deploy, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and upgrade laptops, workstations, peripherals, and other end-user hardware.
- Set up and troubleshoot computers, monitors, printers, and other IT equipment.
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding, including account and access changes, equipment preparation and deployment, software installation, and equipment return.
- Maintain IT documentation and assist with asset management, equipment inventory, assignments, and lifecycle tracking.
- Perform routine IT maintenance, software updates, equipment checks, and other recurring support activities.
- Contribute to support documentation and knowledge resources and identify recurring issues or opportunities to improve routine support processes.
- Follow established IT and security procedures, escalating infrastructure, cybersecurity, systems administration, and other complex issues to appropriate IT team members.
Onsite Technology & Event Support — 30%
- Provide hands-on IT support at both the Los Angeles County and Orange County locations, traveling between sites as needed.
- Troubleshoot onsite Wi-Fi/network connectivity, printers, workstations, conference room equipment, displays, peripherals, and other workplace technology.
- Assist with basic Ethernet cabling and physical network connectivity, including connecting, tracing, replacing, and troubleshooting cables and endpoint connections.
- Crimp and terminate Ethernet cables as needed for basic onsite connectivity support.
- Set up, test, troubleshoot, and support technology for in-person and hybrid meetings, including Zoom/Teams conferencing, displays, cameras, microphones, speakers, and related AV equipment.
- Provide technical support for movie screenings, presentations, large meetings, and other organizational events requiring audiovisual or conferencing technology.
- Conduct routine checks of shared technology and meeting spaces and assist with the setup, movement, connection, and maintenance of IT and AV equipment.
Qualifications:
- Approximately 1–3 years of IT help desk, desktop support, technical support, or comparable hands-on experience preferred; relevant education, certifications, internships, or other practical experience may substitute for formal work experience.
- Basic PC and Mac troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Familiarity with several of the following is preferred: Microsoft 365 Admin Center, Google Workspace, Active Directory/Azure, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, ShoreTel or other VoIP systems, Adobe Creative Suite, and other media or content-creation applications.
- Basic Active Directory knowledge, including user creation, password resets, and group management.
- Basic networking knowledge, including Wi-Fi, Ethernet, patching and tracing cables, and common connectivity issues.
- Basic knowledge of Windows/macOS commands and network troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot methodically, research unfamiliar problems, learn new systems and procedures quickly, and become self-sufficient in routine support responsibilities.
- Good communication, customer service, and documentation skills, including the ability to provide clear technical assistance to employees with varying levels of technical proficiency.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tickets and requests, follow established procedures, maintain accurate documentation, and recognize when issues require escalation.
- Ability and willingness to work onsite at and travel between locations in Los Angeles County and Orange County as business needs require.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing more than 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Availability to provide occasional event-related technical support outside standard business hours may be required.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
The working conditions are primarily in a general office setting. However, the position will require travel between locations in Los Angeles County and Orange County as business needs require
