About the Role

IT Support Specialist 
$20.00 - $23.00 / non-exempt
 
Position Overview
This position provides the various county departments with hardware and software maintenance and support for all computer systems and associated networking and communications infrastructure. This position is also responsible for network configuration, product research, and basic network and database design.
 
 Essential Functions
  • Provides troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of County-issued computers, peripherals, and related equipment.
  • Assists users and IT staff in diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues; escalates complex issues as appropriate.
  • Documents support activities, system configurations, and procedures using approved IT service management or tracking tools.
  • Provides end-user support and basic training on standard software applications, including email, document management, spreadsheets, and County systems.
  • Stays informed of standard technology updates and assists in evaluating hardware and software solutions as assigned.
  • Provides technical support to County employees for approved hardware, software, and systems.
  • Installs, configures, updates, and maintains approved software applications on County devices.
  • Assists with evaluation of hardware and software needs; recommendations are subject to supervisory review and approval.
  • May assist with updates to County web content or systems as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
 Additional Functions
  • Operates computers and standard office equipment.
  • Provides assistance to other departments as needed within the scope of the position.
  • Performs other job-related duties consistent with the classification and assigned by supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree or equivalent coursework in information technology, computer science, or a related field, supplemented by one (1) year of relevant technical support experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and basic network connectivity.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues using established procedures.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to nontechnical users.
  • Ability to document work activities accurately using designated systems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to service requests in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines.
 
Physical Requirements
Work involves frequent sitting, standing, and walking, as well as use of hands for operating computers and related equipment. May require lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier items.
 
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in office and indoor technical environments, with occasional work in equipment rooms or other County facilities.
