Job DetailsJob Location: Ahoskie, NC 27910Position Summary
The IT Support Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of IT systems across Jernigan Oil Company's office locations, retail operations, mobile DOT units. This role covers network support, IT security, fuel management systems (Veeder Root), point-of-sale support (Verifone Commander) at Big Red's stores, and delivery truck tablets, along with general technical support for our dealer convenience store partners. This is a hands-on, versatile role suited for someone who enjoys variety and solving problems across many different systems.
Key Responsibilities
IT Support
Serve as the primary IT support contact for all company office locations
Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, printers, phones, and other end-user equipment
Manage user accounts, permissions, and access across company systems
Coordinate with outside vendors and service providers as needed (ISPs, hardware vendors, software support)
Network & Infrastructure
Maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot company networks (LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, routers, switches, firewalls) across all offices, store locations, and other point of communication at customer locations
Ensure reliable, secure connectivity between corporate offices and retail sites
Perform routine maintenance, updates, and documentation of network infrastructure
IT Security
Maintain and enforce company IT security policies and best practices
Monitor systems for security vulnerabilities, threats, and unauthorized access
Manage antivirus/endpoint protection, firewalls, backups, and data protection measures
Assist with security awareness efforts and incident response as needed
Help ensure compliance with relevant data security and payment card (PCI) standards
Fuel, POS Systems, and Delivery Tablets
Maintain and support Veeder Root fuel management/tank monitoring systems across customer locations
Troubleshoot and support Verifone Commander POS systems at Big Red's store locations
Respond to and resolve system outages or malfunctions affecting store operations in a timely manner
Support and troubleshoot Apple and Android tablets used in fuel and propane delivery trucks, including setup, connectivity, app issues, and device replacement/repair coordination
Dealer Convenience Store Support
Provide IT support and troubleshooting assistance to dealer convenience store partners as needed
Help dealers resolve connectivity, POS, or equipment issues to minimize downtime
General / Other Duties
Research and recommend new technology and equipment upgrades
Maintain documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures
Other IT-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's or associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience in IT support, network administration, or a similar role
Experience with POS systems (Verifone Commander experience a strong plus) preferred
Experience with fuel management systems (Veeder Root experience a strong plus) preferred
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routers, switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi)
Working knowledge of IT security best practices (endpoint protection, backups, access control)
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across locations
Excellent communication skills — able to explain technical issues to non-technical staff
Valid driver's license and ability to travel between company locations as needed
Physical / Work Requirements
Ability to travel regularly between office and store locations
Availability for evening/weekend response to critical outages
Ability to lift equipment (e.g., up to 25-50 lbs.) as needed
