The IT Specialist is responsible for the reliability, safety, and performance of the physical infrastructure that supports Cooper Steel’s IT systems. This role sits at the intersection of facilities and technology, ensuring that structured cabling, network rooms, power systems, and facility-based technology are properly installed, maintained, and documented. The position also provides limited onsite end‑user support related to infrastructure‑driven IT issues, helping ensure stable operations across multiple locations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair IT‑related facilities infrastructure including fiber and copper cabling, patch panels, racks, and network closets
  • Support critical power and electrical systems serving IT equipment, such as UPS units, PDUs, generators, and distribution components
  • Support access control, surveillance, emergency alerting, and other facility systems integrated with IT networks
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections on infrastructure supporting data, voice, and network services
  • Partner with IT teams on network expansions, server room builds, facility upgrades, and technology deployments
  • Maintain accurate documentation including infrastructure layouts, cable plants, configurations, and as‑built drawings
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to connectivity, power, cooling, and facility automation that impact IT operations
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors supporting installation, maintenance, and repair projects
  • Ensure infrastructure meets safety standards, building codes, and IT security requirements
  • Participate in on‑call or after‑hours response for infrastructure incidents impacting IT operations
  • Assist with facility audits, infrastructure assessments, and capacity planning efforts
  • Provide basic onsite support for end‑user issues related to facilities infrastructure, such as network connectivity, cabling issues, printers, and conference room AV
  • Support basic hardware or peripheral troubleshooting within office and meeting environments
  • Escalate complex or non‑infrastructure issues to centralized IT support teams as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelors Degree or higher (Preferred) in related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience
