About the Role

At Zero, we partner with forward-thinking organizations in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry to push the boundaries of how the built environment is designed and delivered. As the premier full-service management advisory firm exclusively focused on the built world, we combine domain expertise with leading-edge technology strategy to solve real problems at scale.

We are seeking an IT Manager to own the technology environment that keeps our teams productive, secure, and moving fast. Zero operates as a holding company with multiple portfolio companies—each with its own identity, toolsets, and workflows.

That means you won’t be managing one homogeneous environment; you’ll be navigating Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 side by side, supporting Mac and Windows fleets, and making it all work seamlessly across organizations that share infrastructure but maintain independence. If that sounds like a puzzle you’d enjoy solving, keep reading.

This role goes well beyond traditional IT. You’ll provision and secure the modern AI systems our engineering teams depend on, manage cloud infrastructure access across AWS, and work closely with our virtual CISO (vCISO) to implement security policies that protect the entire portfolio. You’ll be the connective tissue between our engineering, operations, and security functions—ensuring every team has the tools they need while maintaining the governance a growing organization demands.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage the end-to-end IT environment across Zero’s holding company and portfolio companies, supporting heterogeneous ecosystems including Google Workspace,Microsoft 365, Mac, and Windows devices.

• Provision, configure, and maintain user accounts, devices, and access controls across multiple organizations with distinct identity and tooling requirements.

• Manage endpoint fleet using modern MDM solutions, ensuring consistent security policies across Mac and Windows devices while respecting portfolio company autonomy.

• Administer and secure AWS accounts and cloud infrastructure access, including IAM policies, SSO configurations, and resource provisioning for engineering and AI/ML workloads.

• Provision and support modern AI development environments, including GPU-accelerated compute, model training infrastructure, and developer tooling for teams building production AI systems.

• Collaborate closely with our vCISO to implement and maintain security frameworks, including endpoint protection, network security, access governance, and incident response procedures.

• Drive compliance initiatives (SOC 2, ISO 27001) by implementing technical controls, maintaining audit-ready documentation, and supporting assessment processes across the portfolio.

• Manage SaaS application lifecycle—procurement, onboarding, license optimization, and offboarding—across a diverse toolstack spanning engineering, design, and business operations.

• Build and maintain IT onboarding and offboarding workflows that scale across multiple portfolio companies while maintaining security and a great employee experience.

• Establish and maintain IT documentation, runbooks, and knowledge bases that enable self-service and reduce support burden across the organization.

• Monitor and optimize IT spend across the portfolio, identifying consolidation opportunities while respecting each company’s operational needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

• 4–6 years of hands-on IT management experience, ideally in a multi-entity, startup, or high-growth environment.

• Strong experience administering both Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 in production environments.

• Proficiency managing mixed Mac and Windows device fleets using MDM platforms (Jamf, Intune, Kandji, or similar).

• Hands-on experience with AWS (IAM, SSO, Organizations, EC2, S3) and cloud infrastructure access management.

• Solid understanding of identity and access management principles, including SSO, SCIM provisioning, and zero-trust architectures.

• Experience implementing security controls in collaboration with security leadership (CISO or vCISO) and supporting compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001).

• Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for IT workflow automation.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to support technical and non-technical users across multiple teams and organizations.

• Self-directed problem solver who thrives in ambiguity and can build processes from scratch rather than inheriting them.

Preferred Qualifications (A plus, not a requirement):

• Experience supporting AI/ML engineering teams, including provisioning GPU instances, managing model training infrastructure, and securing AI development environments.

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation/CDK) and GitOps practices.

• Background in managing IT for holding company or multi-subsidiary organizational structures.

• Experience with SIEM platforms, EDR tools, and vulnerability management programs.

• Knowledge of networking fundamentals including VPNs, DNS, and firewall management.

• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or Security Specialty).

• Familiarity with the AEC industry and the unique IT challenges of construction technology companies.

• Experience with vendor management and IT procurement processes.

What You’ll Gain:

• The rare challenge of building IT infrastructure that spans multiple companies, each with distinct needs—a puzzle that never gets boring.

• A front-row seat to how modern AI systems are built, deployed, and secured in production, with direct involvement in enabling those capabilities.

• Partnership with experienced security leadership (vCISO) who will help you develop enterprise-grade security expertise.

• Exposure to the full spectrum of modern technology operations—from cloud infrastructure and AI workloads to SaaS management and compliance.

• The opportunity to define IT culture and practices that will scale with a rapidly growing portfolio of companies.

• Mentorship from engineering and operations leaders who value IT as a strategic function, not just a support desk.

Why Zero?

At Zero, the IT Manager isn’t a back-office role—you’re a strategic partner to every team in the portfolio. Our holding company - portfolio company structure means you’ll face challenges that most IT professionals never encounter: standing up Google environments alongside Microsoft tenants, managing security across organizational boundaries, and enabling AI engineering teams that are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the built environment. We believe great IT is invisible when it works and indispensable when it matters. If you’re the kind of person who gets energized by variety, thrives in complexity, and takes pride in building systems that just work—across every platform, every device, and every company in the portfolio—we want to hear from you.
