Ketchikan Indian Community is seeking an experienced Information Technology Director to lead technology strategy and operations for a growing Tribal organization of more than 200 employees. KIC delivers healthcare, governmental, and community services in an environment where dependable systems, responsible access to information, cybersecurity, privacy, and business continuity are essential.
The IT Director sets the organization’s technology direction and is accountable for secure and reliable IT services, cybersecurity and technology risk, enterprise infrastructure and applications, disaster recovery, vendor and contract management, departmental budgeting, and the performance and development of the IT team and assigned staff. The Director partners with executive and program leadership to understand operational needs, establish priorities, and guide technology investments that are practical, sustainable, and effectively serve the needs of the Tribe.
This role requires more than technical expertise. The successful candidate must be able to communicate with nontechnical leaders, navigate competing program priorities, and present technology plans, material changes, budgets, and recommendations through Tribal Council. The Director must bring strategic vision and the judgment to balance innovation and service responsiveness with security, compliance, organizational risk, and responsible stewardship of KIC resources.
Healthcare IT leadership experience is important for this position. Knowledge of Tribal government, Tribal governance, or service delivery within an American Indian or Alaska Native organization is highly valuable. The ideal candidate is an effective organizational leader who can develop a capable IT team, strengthen KIC’s technology governance, and build an environment that supports both current operations and continued organizational growth.
Qualifications: Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in computer science, information technology or business administration.
Five years experience in IT operations role, including progressive leadership experience.
Possess a current and valid State of Alaska driver's license with a record acceptable to KIC’s Insurance carrier.
Possess a current recognized certification in MCSE, A+, Cisco, CNE or other relevant training/experience preferred.
Any combination of related education and/or experience will be considered year for year.
