Job Summary
The EHR IT Support Specialist provides technical support for OCHIN Epic and associated clinical technologies by ensuring end-user devices, infrastructure, system access, connectivity, and peripheral equipment are properly deployed, maintained, and supported. This position serves as a key liaison between Information Technology, clinical operations, and end users to ensure reliable access to healthcare technology systems. The EHR IT Support Specialist supports implementation, optimization, troubleshooting, information security, and ongoing operational readiness activities that promote effective, secure, and efficient healthcare delivery.
Essential Functions
The following functions are fundamental to the position and are required of all incumbents, with or without reasonable accommodation. These functions define the role and are not an exhaustive list of all duties.
- Deploys, configures, maintains, and supports workstations, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, and other equipment required for OCHIN Epic and related clinical applications.
- Coordinates equipment readiness, including inventory, staging, testing, deployment, replacement, and lifecycle management.
- Provides end-user technical support by troubleshooting hardware, software, access, connectivity, and workflow-related issues.
- Manages user access, including provisioning, modification, deactivation, and troubleshooting in accordance with security protocols and organizational policies.
- Supports system connectivity, interfaces, integrations, network access, wireless access, remote access, and device performance.
- Installs, maintains, and supports printers, scanners, signature pads, label printers, badge readers, and other clinical technology peripherals.
- Monitors, resolves, and escalates technical issues affecting clinical operations, patient care, implementation activities, or system availability.
- Supports cybersecurity, HIPAA, privacy, information security, device management, access management, audit, and compliance activities.
- Provides technical support for EHR implementation, upgrades, optimization, training events, go-live activities, and workstation/peripheral readiness.
- Documents procedures, inventories, support activities, and troubleshooting solutions to support efficiency, continuity, and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborates with IT staff, operational leaders, vendors, trainers, analysts, and end users to support technology adoption and service delivery.
Physical Requirments
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and climb while installing or supporting technology equipment.
- Frequently uses hands and fingers to operate computers, tools, and technology devices.
- Must be able to lift, carry, move, and install equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires close visual acuity for troubleshooting hardware, reviewing technical documentation, and working with computer systems.
Required Qualifications
Education
Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Technology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field preferred.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing technical support, help desk services, information technology operations, or infrastructure support.
Experience deploying and supporting hardware, software, user accounts, and network-connected devices.
Experience supporting healthcare technology systems, electronic health records, or clinical environments preferred.
Experience supporting OCHIN Epic or Epic environments preferred.
Post-secondary education or experience that provides the expertise required to perform the functions of the position effectively may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
Licensure and Certifications
Preferred certifications include one or more of the following:
CompTIA A+
CompTIA Network+
CompTIA Security+
Microsoft certifications
Healthcare technology or Epic-related certifications
