About the Role
The Cloud Engineer II will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based applications and services across the organization. This role focuses on ensuring scalability, security, and optimal performance of applications hosted on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
The engineer will work closely with the Application Delivery Team and other IT functions to support the implementation of new features, manage updates, and maintain system reliability. Collaboration with DevOps and security teams will be essential to ensure compliance, automation, and continuous improvement of cloud environments.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain cloud-based applications environments primarily on Microsoft Azure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
- Provide second-level support for cloud applications, troubleshooting issues related to performance, connectivity, and configuration.
- Manage and resolve incidents through ServiceNow, ensuring timely resolution and adherence to SLAs.
- Monitor cloud environments and applications using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and related tools to proactively identify and address potential issues.
- Assist in application testing and deployment within Azure environments, including staging and production.
- Collaborate with DevOps and IT teams to implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
- Manage the update and patching process for cloud applications, including:
- Scheduling and deploying patches and updates across Azure services.
- Testing updates in staging environments before production rollout.
- Coordinating with stakeholders to minimize downtime.
- Documenting changes and ensuring rollback plans are in place.
- Participate in change management and release planning processes, ensuring compliance with governance and security standards.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards, including ISO 27001, SOC 2, and Azure security best practices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of cloud configurations, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Contribute to the development of knowledge base articles for common cloud-related issues and best practices.
Education
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Skills and Experience
Required
- 5 - 8 years of experience in designing, deploying, and supporting cloud-based applications, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure services and related technologies.
- Proven experience in cloud application engineering, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure services (App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Storage, Networking).
- Solid understanding of cloud architecture principles, including scalability, high availability, and security best practices.
- Proficiency in PowerShell and Azure CLI for automation and scripting tasks.
- Experience managing application deployment and patching lifecycle in cloud environments, including planning, testing, deployment, and rollback procedures.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis for cloud-based applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer-focused with a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions and support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact diplomatically with all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented and able to follow established procedures for cloud governance and compliance.
- Ability to lead technical discussions with developers, DevOps, and security teams, building consensus and creating actionable plans.
- Ability to see issues through to resolution and ensure post-implementation stability.
Preferred
- Experience supporting multi-cloud or hybrid environments across global organizations.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 ecosystem and integration with Azure services.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
- Exposure to containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
Physical Demands (required to perform essential job functions)
- Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work Environment
The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as in typical office or administrative work (normal light, air and space in the work environment)
Salary Information
NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $160,000 to $180,000 at the time of posting.
The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
